Contests!
Fall in Charlottesville is the time of festivals and contests! Below are three contests your child might be interested in. 3rd and 4th grade Quest English students will work with Ms. Shrank and I on their entries for UVA's Writer's Eye competition. If your child, of any age, would like to enter the Charlottesville Bus Lines Community Poetry contest, they will need parent permission. If your child would like to enter the 2015 Bird Conservation Poster Contest, they will need parent support unless their classroom is working on the project.
The Benefits of Playing Games
The benefits of playing games are near endless! Your child improves their social interactions, mathematical skills, strategic thinking and patience! To build on all of these opportunities, every 2nd grader has learned to play Dominoes in the Quest room this quarter. They now know basic game language like "face down," "shuffle," and "hand;" in addition to Domino specific language like "pips," "bones," and "block." If you aren't up on the basic rules of Dominoes, let these 2nd graders show you how in our presentation below!
